Our Team of Surgeons

Kunesh Eye Center is a family of eye surgeons. All Kunesh Eye Center ophthalmologists have focused their practice on medical and surgical adult eye care.

All Surgeons are board-certified.

Michael T. Kunesh, M.D.

Ophthalmologist

Dr. Michael T. Kunesh graduated from Alter High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame, graduating with highest honors. He received his medical degree from Ohio State University. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society for top medical school graduates. While at Ohio State University, Dr. Kunesh’s medical school was ranked as the number two primary care medical school in the United States. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University. He then completed a fellowship in glaucoma at Ohio State University. During Dr. Kunesh’s time at Ohio State University, his ophthalmology residency program was ranked as number one in the country, as measured by proficiency exams. Dr. Kunesh continued his academic success by scoring in the top 1% in the country on his ophthalmology board exam. He also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Ohio State University. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in ophthalmology at Wright State University, where he is active in teaching medical students.

John C. Kunesh, M.D.

Ophthalmologist

Dr. John C. Kunesh graduated from Alter High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame graduating with highest honors. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, an honor society for top collegiate graduates. He received his medical degree with honors from Ohio State University, graduating third in his class. He received numerous honors including election to Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society for top medical school graduates, the Watman Achievement Award for academic excellence and the Eli G. Alcorn Award for the top medical student in ophthalmology. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University and was honored with the position of Chief Resident in his final year. He then completed a fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at Ohio State University. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Wright State University, where he is active in teaching medical students. Dr. John Kunesh also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Ohio State University, serving as a surgical instructor at the Dayton VA Medical Center for the ophthalmology residents.

Dr. Mary G. Kunesh

Ophthalmologist

Dr. Mary G. Kunesh graduated from Alter High School and then went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame. She received her medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where she graduated in the top 25% of her class and was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society, a society that honors senior medical students recognized for excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service. She completed her ophthalmology residency at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia at the same program where her grandfather and the founder of Kunesh Eye Center completed his ophthalmology training 50 years prior. She feels so thankful to be able to join her father and uncle in the practice that her grandfather started so many years ago and is honored to have the chance to serve the community she grew up in.

Jennifer T. Fowler, O.D.

Therapeutic Optometrist

Dr. Jennifer T. Fowler was born and raised in Dover, Delaware. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Delaware. She went on to receive her optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. After receiving her doctorate in Optometry, she completed a residency at the Huntington VA Medical Center specializing in Ocular Disease. Dr. Fowler received 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Awards for recognition of outstanding patient service from the Huntington VA Medical Center. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association.

Dr. Fowler joined our practice in August, 2018. Dr. Fowler diagnoses and manages glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration as well as other ocular diseases. She also sees same day acute visits and assists in postoperative care. We welcome her to our team and look forward to working with her.
